French at Coláiste Treasa.

French is offered to all students from 1st year up to Leaving Cert at both higher and ordinary level. Students have a choice after 1st year as to whether they would like to study it for their Junior Cert and again after 3rd year with regards to the Leaving Cert.

There are four components to studying a language:
Ø Aural Exam
Ø Reading Comprehension
Ø Written Production
Ø Oral Exam (Leaving Cert. only)

This is a brief breakdown of both the Junior Cert and Leaving Cert exams at higher level:
Junior Cert. Leaving Cert.
Aural – 42% Aural – 20%
Reading – 33% Reading – 30%
Written – 25% Written – 25%
Oral – 25%

Students have access to a variety of language resources in our school.
During our language classes in the computer room, each student is provided with a set of headphones and so can use the many activities provided online to practise their aural, reading, written and oral skills in French.
An example of some of the websites our school subscribes to are:
http://www.linguascope.com/, http://www.french.ie/, http://www.languagesonline.org.uk/
Students are given their own private username and password where necessary and so then can use any of these at home also. Some sites provide direct access to the French news and radio stations which is a great opportunity to hear authentic French.
Our transition year students take part in e-twinning, where they are twinned with a class in France and discuss various issues throughout the year.
Our senior students subscribe to the website http://www.onlinelanguageresources.com/ where they gain access to interesting articles in French based on topical issues in both Ireland and France. This also includes audio clips.

Our library also contains a French section where many French magazines, short novels, dvds and a number of textbooks are available.

Students have enjoyed many school tours to Paris at senior cycle.

There is a question on language here and you must refer to language that has been uses in the conversation ( words/ phrases that were said) there are no marks for tone of voice without reference to language used.

Part 3 Conversation ( Played 3 times)

You must first identify the relationship between the two people but the most of the marks will be going for how you knew this what language used meant that you were able to come to a decision of one of the choices over another?
You must also identify attitudes with support from the text ( language used)

Revise the weather.
In General you need to revise the following:
months, days, time, alphabet ( write ah=a, ay=e, ee=i, fow=v, vay=w) at top before you start.
